About Family Tree Maker
Family Tree Maker is a long-established desktop genealogy program, now developed by Software MacKiev, for building a family tree on Windows or Mac. Its main draw is synchronisation with an Ancestry.com online tree, so the copy on your computer and the one on Ancestry stay matched, including across more than one computer. It also shows record hints from Ancestry and FamilySearch, can download branches from FamilySearch, and includes mapping, charts and reports. A cloud feature and a free companion mobile app let relatives view the tree and leave notes. It is a paid program sold as a one-time purchase per version, with new editions released every few years. It suits genealogists who do most of their research on Ancestry and want a full desktop program that stays in step with their online tree.
Best for: Ancestry subscribers who want a desktop tree that stays synced with their online Ancestry tree.
