About FurMark

FurMark from Geeks3D is one of the best-known graphics card stress tests. It renders a deliberately heavy furry-donut scene that pushes a GPU to near-maximum load, which makes it a quick way to check whether an overclock is stable, whether cooling keeps temperatures in check and whether a power supply copes. FurMark 2 is the current version: it runs on Windows (32- and 64-bit) and Linux, including ARM64 builds, adds a Vulkan test alongside OpenGL, and has better command-line control for scripted runs. Scores can be submitted online for comparison. The original FurMark 1 is still maintained for Windows. Both are free. FurMark is a synthetic load rather than a game-like benchmark, so its scores say little about real gaming performance, and its extreme load can run hotter than any game; card makers ship rebranded editions such as MSI Kombustor. There is no macOS version.

Best for: PC builders and overclockers checking GPU stability and cooling quickly.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Free and quick to run
  • Very heavy GPU load exposes unstable overclocks and cooling
  • Windows and Linux builds, including ARM64 Linux
  • Command-line support for scripted tests

Why people leave

  • Synthetic load that doesn't reflect real gaming performance
  • No macOS version
  • Tests only the GPU, not CPU or memory
