About Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscope is a long-running Mac app for seeing differences between files and resolving them. It compares text down to the character, images pixel by pixel with split, blink and overlay views, and entire folder trees, and it offers three-way merging for conflicts. Recent versions lean into Git: you can open a repository, browse a file's full history, review all changes between two commits as one changeset that updates live as you edit, and step through merge conflicts with commit messages alongside. A command-line helper, ksdiff, connects it to git difftool, git mergetool and many Git clients. It is aimed at developers, designers and writers on macOS who want a polished visual diff tool. Kaleidoscope is now sold only as a monthly or yearly subscription, with a seven-day trial, and the app stops working when the subscription ends; owners of versions 2 and 3 can keep using those. It runs only on macOS.
Best for: Mac developers and designers who want polished diffs for code, images and Git history.
