About LocalXpose

LocalXpose is a hosted tunnelling service in the same family as ngrok: you run its client on your machine and it gives a local web server, API or device a public address. It handles HTTP and HTTPS on every plan, and paid plans add TCP, TLS and UDP tunnels, custom and wildcard domains, and port forwarding, so it also covers things like game servers, IP cameras or a Raspberry Pi at home. There is both a command-line client (handy in CI jobs and Docker containers) and a graphical app for people who would rather click. Built-in options include basic and key authentication, IP allow lists, rate limiting, header rewriting and a small file server. The free Starter plan is meant for testing: it allows two HTTP(S) tunnels with time limits and shows visitors a warning page first. The Pro plan removes those limits and is billed monthly or yearly, and an Enterprise tier adds an admin dashboard and dedicated capacity. Clients exist for Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD and Docker. The service is run by Freeport Cloud, Inc. in the US.

Best for: Developers who need TCP or UDP tunnels and custom domains at a lower price than ngrok's paid tiers.

Pros and cons

What works

  • TCP, TLS and UDP tunnels as well as HTTP(S) on the paid plan
  • Both a CLI and a desktop GUI client
  • Auth, IP allow lists and rate limiting included on all plans

Why people leave

  • Free tunnels have time limits and an interstitial warning page
  • Smaller and less documented ecosystem than ngrok or Cloudflare Tunnel
  • Hosted only; you can't run the relay server yourself
