About SkySafari
SkySafari is a planetarium app for phones and tablets aimed at people who take their device out to the telescope. Point it at the sky to identify objects, browse an event calendar for eclipses, conjunctions and ISS passes, and plan sessions with field-of-view overlays for your own scopes, eyepieces and cameras. It controls a wide range of mounts over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, including ASCOM, INDI and Celestron, and version 8 adds plate solving and pinning your own astrophotos onto the sky chart. It is sold in three one-time tiers: Basic for casual use, Plus, and Pro, whose catalogue covers about 100 million stars, millions of galaxies and every known comet and asteroid. An optional Premium membership adds extras such as an orbit mode and cloud sync through LiveSky. It runs on iOS and Android. Unlike the free desktop planetariums, it is closed source and paid, and the most useful features sit in the higher tiers.
Best for: Observers who want a capable sky chart and telescope controller on their phone.
