Void has been discontinued. Development paused and the GitHub repository archived; existing builds still run.
About Void
Void is an open-source AI code editor built as a fork of VS Code, positioned as a private alternative to Cursor and Windsurf. Its main idea was to let you connect directly to any model provider, or to local models through tools like Ollama, without routing prompts through the editor maker's servers. It offered tab autocomplete, quick inline edits, chat with an agent mode, checkpoints for AI changes and lint-error detection, and it could import your VS Code themes, keybindings and settings in one step. The project was free and Apache-licensed. Its team paused work on the IDE to explore other AI coding ideas, and the GitHub repository has since been archived, so no new features or fixes are coming. Existing builds still run, but features may break as model APIs change. It is listed because people still look for it; anyone wanting the same bring-your-own-model approach should look at actively maintained options.
Best for: Nobody new; current users should move to a maintained editor.
