About Wattpad
Wattpad is one of the largest platforms for reading and writing fiction online, now part of the same company family as WEBTOON. Writers publish stories chapter by chapter, and readers follow them, vote and leave comments on individual paragraphs, which makes it as much a social community as a library. Romance, fanfiction, fantasy, werewolf, teen and LGBTQ+ fiction are especially popular, and the yearly Wattys awards and editor picks help new writers get noticed. A number of stories have gone on to become printed books through Wattpad Books and films or series through its production arm. Reading and writing are free with ads. Wattpad Originals are paid stories unlocked with Coins, and a Premium subscription removes ads, allows unlimited offline reading and adds a monthly bundle of Originals; Premium+ adds bonus Coins each month. It runs in the browser and in apps for iOS and Android. Discovery is driven by popularity, so quieter literary work can be hard to find.
Best for: Young readers and new fiction writers who want a big, social community around serialised stories.

- Inline comments and votes give writers fast feedback
- Popular stories can lead to print and screen deals
Why people leave
- Free reading includes ads, and Originals cost Coins
- Quality varies widely and discovery favours already-popular stories
- Writers earn little unless picked for paid programmes
