Is there a free alternative to Wix?

Yes. Webflow (free plan + paid), WordPress.com (free plan + paid) and Framer (free plan + paid) have a free option. Check each app's verified facts for current plan limits.

Is there an open-source alternative to Wix?

None of the 6 alternatives in this list is open source.

The complaints we hear most: no practical way to export a site and move hosts; free plan shows Wix ads and a Wix subdomain; free placement can make mobile layouts fiddly.
