Wix alternatives: 6 apps ranked by verified data

Facts checked Oct 25, 2026AppBreakup editorialHow we rank

Common reasons people leave Wix: no practical way to export a site and move hosts, and free plan shows Wix ads and a Wix subdomain. We ranked 6 alternatives by how directly each one replaces Wix, then by reviews, real visits and how recently each app's facts were checked against its own website. Squarespace currently ranks first.

Wix alternatives: common questions

What is the best alternative to Wix?

Squarespace ranks first right now. More polished, design-led templates with less layout freedom but fewer ways to break the design. Webflow and WordPress.com follow it in our ranking.

Is there a free alternative to Wix?

Yes. Webflow (free plan + paid), WordPress.com (free plan + paid) and Framer (free plan + paid) have a free option. Check each app's verified facts for current plan limits.

Is there an open-source alternative to Wix?

None of the 6 alternatives in this list is open source.

Why do people switch from Wix?

The complaints we hear most: no practical way to export a site and move hosts; free plan shows Wix ads and a Wix subdomain; free placement can make mobile layouts fiddly.

How is this list ranked?

Every app is scored with the same published formula: how directly it replaces Wix, reviews (weighted by verification), visits from AppBreakup, how recently its facts were checked against its own website, and reader votes.
