About Everything
Everything, from voidtools, is a Windows file search engine that finds files and folders by name the moment you start typing. Rather than crawling the disk, it reads the NTFS file tables directly to build a small index in seconds, then follows the NTFS change journal so results stay current in real time. The result is a plain window that filters millions of files instantly with very little memory or CPU. It has a deep search syntax with wildcards, regex, size, date and path filters, plus duplicate finding, an HTTP and ETP server for searching from other machines, and a command-line interface. It runs entirely offline, collects no user data and has no telemetry. Everything is freeware supported by donations and runs on Windows from XP to Windows 11, with installer, portable and lite builds. It searches file names rather than document contents, so it is not a replacement for full-text search, and there is no Mac or Linux version.
Best for: Windows users who want to find any file by name in a fraction of a second.
