About Firezone

Firezone is a remote access product that replaces a company VPN with per-resource access, similar in spirit to Twingate but with open-source code. Admins define resources and policies in a hosted admin portal, gateways run inside private networks, and clients connect to the nearest gateway over WireGuard. The data plane is written in Rust and tuned for each operating system, and clients sign in through email or OpenID Connect providers. Features include DNS-based routing, gateway load balancing and failover, audit logs and a REST API. Its source code is Apache-licensed, though the current version is built around the hosted control plane. The Starter plan is free for small teams and home labs, with per-seat paid plans for larger teams and enterprise contracts. Clients run on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android and ChromeOS. It suits technical teams that want zero-trust access with transparent, open code.

Best for: Technical teams that want open-source zero-trust access instead of a VPN gateway.
