About Fission
Fission is a simple audio editor for macOS from Rogue Amoeba, the company behind Audio Hijack and Loopback. It is designed for quick jobs rather than production: trimming the start and end of a recording, cutting out ads from a captured stream, splitting a long file into tracks, joining clips, adjusting volume and adding fades. Its key feature is lossless editing of MP3 and AAC files, so cutting a compressed file doesn't re-encode it and degrade quality. It can also batch convert between MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, FLAC, AIFF and WAV, and create chapterised podcast files. It pairs well with Audio Hijack for recording and cleaning up captured audio. Fission is sold as a one-off licence with a free trial, and it runs only on macOS. It has no multitrack editing, effects beyond basics, or restoration tools, so it complements rather than replaces a full editor.
Best for: Mac users who need to trim, split and convert audio files quickly without quality loss.
