About HONK

HONK is a pay-per-use roadside app. You don't join anything: when your car breaks down you open the app or the website, pick the problem, and HONK routes the job to a nearby tow operator from its network of independent partners, who contacts you to confirm help is on the way. Before help arrives you get a "guaranteed not to exceed" price, and HONK says no tax or tip is added. It handles the usual jobs: towing, jump starts, flat tires, lockouts and fuel delivery. Because HONK is tied to your phone rather than a vehicle, it works in borrowed cars, rentals and friends' cars, as long as you pay for that job. Much of HONK's website now pitches its dispatch platform to insurers, fleets and carmakers, and in 2026 it combined with CurbsideSOS, so the consumer app is one part of a larger business. The trade-off is the pay-per-use model itself: there's no yearly fee, but every call is billed in full, so drivers who need help several times a year can end up paying more than a motor club membership, and there are no club extras such as trip-interruption cover or member discounts.

Best for: Drivers who rarely break down and want help on demand without paying a yearly membership.
