About LaunchBar

LaunchBar, from Austrian developer Objective Development (also known for Little Snitch), is one of the oldest launchers on the Mac. You type short abbreviations and it adapts to what you pick, so a couple of letters quickly become muscle memory for apps, documents, contacts and bookmarks. It is also a capable keyboard file manager: you can browse into folders, inspect metadata, and copy, move or rename files without opening Finder. It includes clipboard history, text snippets, a calculator, calendar and reminders input, and indexes things like Safari reading lists, Finder tags and Shortcuts. Custom actions can be written in AppleScript, JavaScript, Python, Ruby and other languages. It is a paid app with a trial, but after the trial it keeps working without a licence and simply pauses now and then to nudge you to buy. It runs only on macOS. Its extension ecosystem is smaller than Alfred's or Raycast's, and it gets less attention online, but long-time users value its speed and depth.

Best for: Mac users who want a deep keyboard file browser and launcher in one.
