About Wox
Wox is a cross-platform keyboard launcher that positions itself as an open-source alternative to Raycast and Alfred. Version 2 is a rewrite with native GPU-rendered interfaces on Windows, macOS and Linux rather than an Electron shell, and the project says everyday use stays around 150 MB of memory. Built-in features cover app launching and window switching, file search, clipboard history, a calculator and unit converter, web search, browser bookmarks and tabs, emoji, quick notes, screenshots, timers and system commands, along with optional AI chat and AI commands. A plugin and theme store extends it, and plugins can be written in Node.js, Python or as scripts. It is free and licensed under GPL-3.0, and installs through Homebrew, WinGet, Scoop, Chocolatey or the AUR. Wox has existed for years on Windows, but the v2 rewrite is fairly young, so expect a smaller plugin library and some rough edges compared with mature single-platform launchers.
Best for: People who want the same free launcher on Windows, macOS and Linux.
