About mitmproxy

mitmproxy is a free, open-source proxy for intercepting, inspecting, modifying and replaying web traffic. It handles HTTP/1, HTTP/2, HTTP/3, WebSockets and other TLS-protected protocols, and decodes formats from HTML to Protobuf. It comes in three forms: an interactive terminal interface (mitmproxy), a browser-based GUI that feels like Chrome DevTools for any device (mitmweb), and a scriptable headless version (mitmdump) driven by Python add-ons. That scripting API is its main draw: rewriting requests, redirecting hosts or building custom tooling takes a few lines of Python. Developers use it to debug mobile and desktop apps, testers to mock responses, and security researchers for penetration testing and privacy studies. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and is MIT-licensed. Compared with Charles or Proxyman it is less polished as a desktop app, and certificate setup on devices is manual.

Best for: Developers and security testers who want a scriptable, free HTTPS proxy.
