About Mixxx
Mixxx is a free, open-source DJ application developed by a volunteer community for over two decades. It covers what most DJs need for live mixing from a laptop: up to four decks, BPM and key detection, sync, loops, hot cues, effects chains, a sampler and recording or broadcasting your mix. It ships with mappings for many DJ controllers and lets you script your own for any MIDI or HID device, and it supports timecode vinyl so you can scratch digital files on turntables. There is no paid or pro edition; the download is the full program, and donations fund development. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, which makes it one of the few serious DJ options on Linux. Compared with commercial apps it lacks some newer features such as built-in streaming-service integration and polished stems tools, and controller mappings vary in quality since many are contributed by users.
Best for: Beginner and hobby DJs, and anyone on Linux, who want full DJ software without paying.
