About Nextcloud Talk

Nextcloud Talk is the communication app in Nextcloud, the open-source, self-hosted collaboration platform. It provides one-to-one and group video calls, screen sharing, webinars, chat rooms with guests invited by link, breakout rooms and call recording, with apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android as well as the web interface. Because it runs on your own server or a trusted local provider, call and chat data stays under your control, and it supports end-to-end encrypted calls. It ties directly into Nextcloud Files, Calendar, Deck and Office, so you can share documents into chats or start a call from a calendar invite. Talk itself is free and open source; larger calls need the separate High Performance Backend, and Nextcloud Enterprise subscriptions add support and enterprise features. Running it well takes admin effort and decent servers. It suits organisations, especially in the public sector and Europe, that already use or plan to use Nextcloud and want communications on infrastructure they own.

Best for: Organisations that want calls and chat on servers they control, alongside Nextcloud files.
