About Tablecruncher

Tablecruncher is a lightweight CSV editor written in C++ by a solo developer in Germany. It started as a paid Mac app and went free and open source under the GPL-3.0 licence in April 2025. Its main draw is speed: it can open files over 2 GB with millions of rows, and auto-detects most CSV dialects and text encodings. Beyond basic grid editing, sorting and column moves, it has regular-expression find and replace, row flagging with export of flagged rows, JSON export and a JavaScript macro language for scripted changes across a table. There are builds for Windows, Linux, Intel Macs and Apple Silicon, plus a free browser version. The interface uses the FLTK toolkit, so it looks plain rather than native on the Mac. It suits developers and data workers who want a fast, free CSV tool they can script.

Best for: Developers who want a fast, free CSV editor they can script with JavaScript.
