About TeXstudio

TeXstudio is a desktop editor made specifically for LaTeX. You write the markup yourself, and it helps with syntax highlighting, code completion, code folding, a structure view of your document and assistants that generate tables, figures and other blocks. It checks spelling, grammar and references while you type, shows LaTeX errors inline, and has an integrated PDF viewer that syncs your position between source and output almost word by word. Formulas can be previewed live inside the editor. TeXstudio is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 and is available for Windows, macOS and Linux, including an AppImage. Like other desktop LaTeX editors, it relies on a TeX distribution such as MiKTeX or TeX Live being installed separately. It suits students and researchers who are comfortable with LaTeX code and want a full-featured offline editor; it has no built-in real-time collaboration, so co-authors usually share files through Git or a cloud drive.

Best for: LaTeX users who want a full-featured offline editor for free.
