Genially vs Kahoot!
Updated November 2026 · AppBreakup editorial

Genially
Interactive presentations, lessons and games with animation and clickable elements.

Kahoot!
Game-based quiz platform for live and self-paced quizzes in classrooms, training and events.
The short answer
Genially suits teachers and trainers who build interactive lessons, presentations and escape-room style games that learners explore at their own pace. Kahoot! suits those who want a fast, competitive quiz with a live leaderboard to check what a room has learned. The biggest difference: Genially is a content creation tool with quizzes inside it, while Kahoot! is a quiz game platform first.
Genially or Kahoot!: our take
Genially is built for making interactive content. Slides, infographics, learning modules and games can contain clickable layers, hidden reveals, animation and links, and there are 1,000+ free templates to start from. It can import PDF, PowerPoint and Google Slides files and turn them into interactive pieces, which are then shared by link, embedded in a website or learning platform, or presented live. The trade-off is time: rich interactivity takes longer to build than a plain deck.
Kahoot! is narrower and faster to run. A host shows multiple-choice and other questions on a shared screen, players join on their own phones or laptops with a game PIN, link or QR code, and points for speed and accuracy feed a live leaderboard. Quizzes can also be assigned as self-paced challenges, and there is a large library of ready-made kahoots. Standard live sessions allow up to 2,000 participants. It is designed for engagement and quick learning checks rather than for presenting new material in depth.
Both are freemium. Genially's free plan covers the core interactive features, and paid plans start at €6/month billed annually (Pro), adding AI credits, offline downloads, analytics and LMS integrations. Kahoot! offers a free account without a credit card, but many question types, AI-generated quizzes and detailed reports need a paid plan, and its separate plan families for schools, home and business can be confusing. Genially runs only in the browser; Kahoot! also has iOS and Android apps, which matters because players join on their own devices.
Pick Genially when the goal is a lesson, module or game that learners click through and explore. Pick Kahoot! when the goal is a lively live quiz or a quick self-paced check at the end of a lesson or training session. Many teachers use both: Genially to deliver the material and Kahoot! to review it.

About each app
What is Genially?
Genially is a web tool for making interactive content: presentations, learning modules, quizzes, escape-room style games, infographics and interactive images. Elements can be clicked, revealed, animated or linked, which makes it popular with teachers, instructional designers and trainers who want learners to explore rather than just watch. It comes with a large template library, lets you import PDF, PowerPoint and Google Slides files to make them interactive, and offers AI features for drafting content. Finished pieces are shared by link, embedded in websites and learning platforms, or presented live. A free plan covers the core interactive features, and paid Pro, Master and Team plans (priced in euros) add AI credits, offline downloads, analytics, privacy controls and LMS integrations. It runs in the browser. Creating rich interactivity takes more time than a plain slide deck, and it isn't meant for quick, conventional business presentations.
What is Kahoot!?
Kahoot! turns quizzes into a game show. A host puts multiple-choice and other question types on a shared screen, players join on their own devices with a game PIN, link or QR code, and points for speed and accuracy feed a live leaderboard with music. Quizzes can also be assigned as self-paced challenges with a deadline. Teachers can pick from a large library of ready-made kahoots or create their own, and paid plans add more question types such as polls, puzzles and word clouds, AI-generated quizzes, team mode, presentation slides and detailed reports. Kahoot! has separate plans for schools, for individuals and families, and for businesses under the Kahoot! 360 name, with participant limits that grow with the plan up to a few thousand live players. A free account covers basic hosting. It runs in the browser with iOS and Android apps. It is built for engagement and learning checks, not for open-ended meeting Q&A.
