About Astro
Astro is an open-source web framework for content-heavy sites such as blogs, marketing pages, documentation and online stores. Pages are built from .astro components and render to HTML on the server or at build time, and interactive pieces become islands that load JavaScript only where needed, so most pages ship very little script. You can use components from React, Vue, Svelte, Solid or Preact side by side, pull content from Markdown and MDX with typed content collections, or connect a headless CMS, and deploy statically or with server rendering through adapters for many hosts. It has become a popular default for new content sites, with a large integration ecosystem and well-regarded docs. The trade-offs are that very app-like, highly interactive products may be better served by a full app framework, and frequent major versions can mean upgrade work. Astro is MIT-licensed, free, and runs on Node.js on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Best for: Developers building fast content sites who want to use any UI framework.
