About Keystatic

Keystatic is an open-source content management tool from the Australian consultancy Thinkmill, the team behind Keystone. Instead of a database, it reads and writes Markdown, Markdoc, YAML and JSON files in your project, either on the local file system while developing or in a GitHub repository in production. Developers define collections and singletons in a TypeScript config, and Keystatic serves an admin UI inside an Astro, Next.js or Remix app, with a rich document editor and typed content readers for the front end. Keystatic Cloud is an optional hosted service that simplifies GitHub authentication and image handling for teams. It suits developers building content sites with modern frameworks who want editors to have a clean interface without adding a backend. The trade-offs are that it supports only a few frameworks, GitHub is the only remote storage, and features such as workflows and roles are limited. The core is MIT-licensed and free.

Best for: Astro and Next.js developers who want file-based content with a clean editor.
