About Blot

Blot builds a blog from a folder. You sync a folder through iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive or Git, drop in Markdown, Word documents, Google Docs or images, and each file becomes a post or page; editing or deleting the file updates the site. That makes it a good fit for people who already write in a favourite text editor and don't want a web editor or database. It includes templates you can customise, custom domains with SSL, hosting with a CDN and exports to formats such as WordPress. Blot has run since 2014, is funded by customers rather than investors or ads, and publishes its source code under the AGPL so you can self-host. There is one flat price per site and no free plan, though the first month is refunded if you cancel. It lacks newsletter sending and paid memberships. It runs in the browser plus your own file sync. It suits writers and photographers who prefer working with files.

Best for: Writers who want to publish a blog straight from files in their own folder and editor.
