About Buy Me a Coffee
Buy Me a Coffee gives creators a single page where supporters can send a one-off payment with a message, sign up for a monthly membership, or buy downloads and other items from a shop. Creators can post updates and members-only content, send messages to supporters and embed buttons or widgets on their own sites and streams. It was started in 2017 by two creators who wanted an easier way to be paid by their audience than advertising. The pitch is speed and friendliness: setting up a page takes minutes and supporters don't need an account. It is free to start, with the company taking a percentage of earnings. The publishing tools are basic, so it is a weak choice if your main product is a long-form newsletter, and discovery comes from your own audience. It runs in the browser with iOS and Android apps. It suits creators who want tips and light memberships without much setup.
Best for: Creators who want a quick tip jar and light membership page for an existing audience.
