About Clop
Clop is a menu bar app for macOS that compresses media in the background. With it running, any image copied to the clipboard is optimised before you paste, and it can watch folders so new screenshots, screen recordings, PDFs and audio files get smaller as they appear. A drop zone accepts files by drag and drop, and a format bar converts results to WebP, AVIF, JPEG XL, HEVC or AV1. It can also downscale and crop, turn videos into GIFs, shrink a file until it fits under a size limit such as an email attachment cap, and chain steps into pipelines. Processing happens on the Mac using open-source encoders like pngquant, ffmpeg and ghostscript, with no cloud upload. It's aimed at people who share a lot of screenshots and recordings. Clop is freemium: clipboard optimisation and pipelines are free, while batch mode and higher per-session limits need a one-time Pro licence, with a trial first. It needs a recent macOS.
Best for: Mac users who share many screenshots and screen recordings and want them smaller automatically.
