About ImageOptim
ImageOptim is a long-standing Mac utility for making images smaller before you publish or ship them. Drag JPEG, PNG, GIF or SVG files onto its window or Dock icon and it runs several optimisers in turn (MozJPEG, pngquant, Pngcrush, Zopfli, SVGO and others), keeps whichever result is smallest, and overwrites the file. By default it is lossless, so images look identical; turning on lossy minification gives much bigger savings in exchange for a small quality change. It also removes EXIF data such as GPS position and camera serial numbers, which is useful for privacy. It integrates with Finder services and can be run from the command line. The Mac app is free and open source under the GPL v2 and is deliberately not sold in the Mac App Store; a separate paid web API exists for servers. It needs macOS 11 or later. It suits web developers, designers and app developers who want a simple, reliable compressor.
Best for: Mac users who want a free drag-and-drop compressor for web and app images.
