About Finicky

Finicky is an open-source macOS utility that you set as the default browser so it can decide where each link opens. Instead of a settings window full of checkboxes, you write a configuration file in JavaScript or TypeScript that matches URLs with wildcards, regular expressions or your own functions and names the browser or app to use. It can also rewrite URLs before opening them, for example forcing HTTPS, stripping tracking parameters or sending x.com links to an alternative front end. Browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox add an "open with Finicky" option on links. It is free under the MIT licence and installs from GitHub releases or Homebrew. There's no picker prompt: Finicky only follows rules, so its own README suggests pairing it with a prompter if you want to choose by hand. That makes it a good fit for developers and less so for people who don't want to edit code.

Best for: Developers on macOS who want scriptable, version-controlled link routing rules for free.
