About Jamulus
Jamulus lets musicians rehearse and jam over a normal broadband connection with low enough delay to stay in time. It works on a client-server model: everyone sends audio to a server, which mixes it and sends it back, so the load on each player's connection stays small even in big groups. The client includes built-in directories of public servers where anyone can drop in, or a band can run its own private server at home or on a cheap cloud machine. It is widely used by choirs, bands, schools and music teachers. Jamulus is free, GPL-licensed and maintained by volunteers, with clients for Windows, macOS and Linux. It is audio only by design; the project suggests pairing it with a video call if you want to see each other. There are no passwords on servers, and a wired connection and headphones are strongly recommended.
Best for: Choirs, bands and jam groups who want a free, proven setup that scales to many players.
