About Leader Key
Leader Key is a small, free macOS utility that replaces type-to-search launching with memorised key sequences. You press one "leader" shortcut of your choice, then a short chain of letters: for example leader, o, m to open Messages, or leader, w, m to maximise a window. Shortcuts are grouped into nested menus defined in a JSON config, and can open apps, URLs and files or run shell commands. The idea borrows from Vim's leader key and from multi-key Karabiner setups, and it suits keyboard-heavy users who find fuzzy search in Raycast or Alfred slower or less predictable. A URL scheme lets other tools trigger it. It is MIT-licensed and installs from GitHub releases or Homebrew. The author has said the app will stay free and open source, but that new work is going into Tuna, a fuller launcher with Leader Key built in, so expect fewer feature updates here.
Best for: Keyboard-driven Mac users who prefer fixed key combos over typing app names.
