About Mailspring

Mailspring is a free, open-source desktop mail client for Mac, Windows and Linux, originally a fork of the discontinued Nylas Mail. It handles Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo and IMAP accounts with a unified inbox, fast search, themes, keyboard shortcuts, touch and gesture support, and a sync engine written in C++ that keeps memory use reasonable for an Electron app. The free version covers everyday email well. Mailspring Pro, a monthly subscription, adds read receipts, link tracking, send later, snooze, follow-up reminders, templates and contact and company profiles. Mail syncs directly between your computer and the mail server; a Mailspring account is needed for Pro features and some services. There are no mobile apps, Exchange support goes through IMAP or Office 365 only, and development is mostly the work of a small team, so new features arrive slowly. It is a good free pick for Linux users who want something more modern than Thunderbird.

Best for: Desktop users, especially on Linux, who want a modern free client.
