About Pangram

Pangram is an AI-content detector for text, and more recently images and video. You paste text or upload files (PDF, DOCX and others, in bulk), and it estimates how much of the document was generated by AI, highlights which segments look machine-written, and separately marks passages that seem AI-edited rather than fully generated. A similarity checker for plagiarism runs alongside. The company was started in 2023 by former Tesla and Google AI researchers and leans heavily on published benchmarks, claiming a very low false-positive rate and the ability to catch text run through 'humanizer' tools. It works in more than 20 languages. Teachers, editors, publishers and trust-and-safety teams are the main audience. There is a small daily free allowance on the website; paid individual, professional and team plans add larger word limits, Google Docs and Gmail add-ons, a browser extension and API credits. Developers can also buy pay-as-you-go API access. Like every detector, its scores are probabilities, not proof.

Best for: Educators and editors who want a low false-positive AI detector with plagiarism checks built in.

  • Pay-as-you-go API and an MCP server for developers

Why people leave

  • Results are probabilistic and shouldn't be used as sole evidence
  • No offline or self-hosted option for sensitive documents
