About Ptyxis
Ptyxis is a GTK 4 terminal by Christian Hergert designed for desktops where much of your work happens in containers. It detects Toolbox, Distrobox and Podman containers and lets you open tabs directly inside them, alongside your host system, with profiles that remember which container and settings to use. It follows GNOME design with a tab overview, light and dark styles, a palette of colour schemes and preferences that are more complete than GNOME Console's, and its author also improved accessibility support in the VTE library that GNOME terminals share. Ptyxis has become the default terminal in Fedora Workstation and recent Ubuntu releases. It is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 and available on Flathub. It is Linux only, and people who want splits or tiling will need another terminal or a multiplexer.
Best for: Linux users who work in Toolbox, Distrobox or Podman containers.
