About Reddit
Reddit is a huge collection of communities, called subreddits, each dedicated to a topic from programming and personal finance to individual TV shows, cities and hobbies. People post links, text, images and videos, and other users upvote or downvote posts and comments, so the most useful or entertaining ones rise to the top of threaded discussions. Each community is run by volunteer moderators with its own rules, which makes the quality vary but often produces detailed, honest advice that people deliberately add to their search queries. You can participate under a pseudonym rather than your real name. Reddit is free with ads, and Reddit Premium removes ads and adds extras. It runs on the web, Android and iPhone. Since its 2023 API price changes most third-party apps have shut down, and some communities and moderators have left, which pushed interest towards federated alternatives like Lemmy and PieFed.
Best for: Finding candid advice and discussion about almost any niche topic.
