About Damus
Damus is a social app for Nostr, a protocol where your identity is a cryptographic key pair instead of an account on someone's server. Posts are sent to relays run by many different people, so no single company can delete your account or ban you from the whole network, and you can use the same identity in any Nostr app. Damus shows a Twitter-like feed of posts, replies, reposts and direct messages, and you can send and receive Bitcoin Lightning tips, called zaps. Creating an account needs no phone number, email or name. The app is free and open source under the GPL, with an optional Purple membership paid in sats for extra features and to support development. It began on iPhone and the team also makes Notedeck for desktop and Android. Because there is no central moderation, spam and unpleasant content are common, and losing your private key means losing your identity.
Best for: People who want censorship-resistant posting with a key-based identity and Bitcoin tips.
