About RevPDF

RevPDF is a PDF editor that does all its processing locally rather than uploading files to a web service. The desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux is free, with no account, watermark or subscription. On mobile it is a free download with an optional one-time Premium upgrade. It covers most everyday PDF work: editing existing text and images with paragraph reflow, annotations and drawing, form building and filling, signatures, watermarks, headers and footers, and permanent redaction. It can also merge, split, reorder and compress files, OCR scans on the device, and export to Word, Excel, PDF/A, JPEG or PNG. Version 5.0 added PDF Compare for spotting changes between two versions and Flows for saving multi-step jobs to run again. It is a newer, independent product with a much smaller user base than Acrobat or Foxit, and it has no cloud collaboration or e-signature workflows for sending documents to others. It suits people who want a capable free editor that keeps documents on their own machine.

Best for: People who want a free desktop PDF editor with OCR and redaction that never uploads their documents.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Desktop app is free with no account, watermark or subscription
  • Edits, OCRs, redacts and converts entirely on the device
  • Native Linux app, which few full PDF editors offer
  • PDF Compare and reusable Flows for repeat jobs

Why people leave

  • No shared cloud workspace or multi-party e-signature requests
  • Mobile features beyond the basics need a paid upgrade
  • Small independent developer with a short track record
