About Soundtrap

Soundtrap is an online studio that runs in a web browser, so there is nothing to install and projects are stored in the cloud. It offers multitrack recording, a MIDI editor, virtual instruments, drum kits and a library of royalty-free loops and sound packs, plus vocal tools such as pitch correction and a set of effects. Its standout feature is real-time collaboration: several people can work on the same project at once from different devices, which has made it popular in classrooms. Soundtrap for Education gives teachers class management and works on school Chromebooks. Spotify bought the company in 2017 and later sold it back to a group including its founders, so it now operates independently again. There is a free tier to get started and paid plans that unlock more sounds, features and storage. It is less suited to detailed mixing or large projects than desktop DAWs, and it needs a steady internet connection.

Best for: Students, teachers and remote collaborators who want a simple studio in the browser.
