About Storj

Storj is a cloud object storage service that works as a drop-in replacement for Amazon S3. Rather than keeping data in a few large data centres, it encrypts files, splits them into pieces with erasure coding and spreads them across thousands of independently run storage nodes around the world, which it says gives consistent speed for globally distributed teams. A second tier keeps data in US SOC 2 data centres for teams that need to control location. It is billed per terabyte stored and downloaded, with no API request fees, a small monthly minimum and a 30-day free trial rather than a permanent free tier. Storj also sells Object Mount, a desktop client for Mac, Windows and Linux that mounts any S3 bucket like a local drive, aimed at media and creative teams. The core storage software is open source under the AGPL. It suits media workflows, backups and archives where egress costs matter.

Best for: Teams storing media, backups or archives who want S3 compatibility with low egress and no API fees.
