About Trend Micro

Trend Micro is a long-running Japanese security company whose home products protect PCs, Macs, phones and Chromebooks. The range runs from Antivirus+ for a single Windows PC, through Internet Security and Maximum Security, up to Premium Security Suite, which covers up to ten devices and adds a VPN, dark-web monitoring and identity theft insurance in some regions. The suites scan for viruses and ransomware, block dangerous and scam websites, check banking pages with a feature called Pay Guard, include parental controls and a password manager, and offer basic system clean-up. Separate apps handle scam text and call checking, ID protection and a VPN. Everything is sold as a yearly subscription; the free HouseCall scanner and a few small tools are the only free options. It suits households that want one subscription across mixed devices, while people who just want a free Windows scanner may find it more than they need.

Best for: Households wanting one antivirus subscription across Windows, Mac, phones and Chromebooks.
