About Zann WordUp
WordUp, now branded Zann WordUp, is a vocabulary app from Geeks Ltd, a UK company that has grown it into a suite of seven English apps covering dictionary lookups, writing feedback, idioms and conversation practice. WordUp's core is a "knowledge map" of the 25,000 most common English words: it works out which ones you already know and serves the gaps in order of how useful they are. Each word page has definitions, pronunciation, usage examples and generated images, and nine challenge types use spaced repetition to make you pronounce, spell, define and use each word. A Chrome extension highlights words you're learning while you browse, progress syncs across devices, and it works offline. WordUp says it has more than 5 million users and has won awards from the British Council and others. It suits advanced English speakers who want to fill gaps in common vocabulary, and people who read a lot in English online. The trade-off: it's designed mainly for people learning English, so native speakers will find much of the early material easy, the newer AI chat features sit outside vocabulary building, and reviewers report crashes and sync problems between devices.
Best for: Advanced English speakers filling gaps in common vocabulary, especially heavy web readers.
