Amazon CloudFront vs Bunny.net
Updated November 2026 · AppBreakup editorial

Amazon CloudFront
AWS content delivery network for caching and accelerating websites, APIs and video.

Bunny.net
Low-cost pay-as-you-go CDN with storage, video streaming and image optimisation add-ons.
The short answer
Amazon CloudFront fits teams already on AWS who want a CDN wired into S3, load balancers and AWS WAF, with flat-rate plans including a free one. Bunny.net fits developers and media sites outside AWS who want a simple, cheap per-GB CDN they can set up in minutes. The main difference is ecosystem and complexity: CloudFront is powerful but tied to AWS tooling, Bunny.net is standalone and simple.
Amazon CloudFront or Bunny.net: our take
CloudFront is Amazon Web Services' CDN. It works with any HTTP origin but fits most naturally in front of S3 buckets, load balancers and EC2, and it adds origin failover, access controls, DDoS protection and edge code through CloudFront Functions and Lambda@Edge. Its network is large, at 750+ points of presence. Bunny.net is an independent European CDN: you create a pull zone, point it at your origin and swap asset URLs, with no DNS move needed. Its Standard network has 119 points of presence, and a cheaper Volume network trades locations for lower prices.
Pricing works differently. CloudFront offers either classic pay-as-you-go billing across data transfer and requests, or flat-rate monthly plans that bundle the CDN with WAF, DNS and other services and have no overage charges. There is a $0 a month free plan, paid flat-rate plans from $15/month per distribution, and higher tiers at $200 and $1,000 a month per distribution. Bunny.net bills only for bandwidth, from $0.01/GB in Europe & North America, with a $1/month minimum and a 14-day free trial but no lasting free plan. Pay-as-you-go CloudFront bills can be hard to predict across multiple meters; Bunny.net's single bandwidth meter is easier to read.
Setup is where many people decide. CloudFront is configured through the AWS console, CLI or infrastructure-as-code tools, which is flexible but has a learning curve for anyone new to AWS and IAM. Bunny.net is simpler to start with and adds Bunny Stream video hosting, edge storage and an image optimiser in the same dashboard, though its WAF and bot protection are lighter.
Choose CloudFront if your stack already lives on AWS, you want tight integration with AWS security tools, or you need edge compute and a very large network. Choose Bunny.net if you want a low-cost standalone CDN for a website, downloads or video, and would rather not learn AWS to get it.
Which should you pick?
Choose Amazon CloudFront if…

Choose Bunny.net if…
- Developers and media sites that want a cheap, simple pay-as-you-go CDN
- Very low per-GB pricing with a $1 monthly minimum
- Works without moving your DNS
About each app
What is Amazon CloudFront?
Amazon CloudFront is the content delivery network run by Amazon Web Services. It caches static files such as images, scripts and video at edge locations around the world and also speeds up dynamic traffic like APIs by keeping persistent connections back to the origin. It works with any HTTP origin but fits most naturally in front of AWS services such as S3 buckets, load balancers and EC2. Beyond caching, it handles TLS certificates, access controls, origin failover and DDoS protection, and lets you run small pieces of code at the edge through CloudFront Functions or Lambda@Edge. There are two ways to pay: the classic pay-as-you-go model, billed by data transfer and requests, and newer flat-rate monthly plans that bundle the CDN with WAF, DNS and other services and have no overage charges, including a free plan for small sites. Configuration happens in the AWS console, CLI or infrastructure-as-code tools, which is flexible but has a learning curve for people new to AWS.
What is Bunny.net?
Bunny.net is a European CDN known for simple, low pricing. You create a pull zone pointing at your origin, swap your asset URLs to the Bunny hostname, and pay only for the bandwidth you use, priced by region, with a small monthly minimum. A Standard network covers 119 points of presence for performance, while a cheaper Volume network with fewer locations suits large file and video delivery where cost matters most. Around the CDN it offers edge storage, Bunny Stream for video hosting and encoding, an image optimiser, DNS, DDoS protection and edge scripting. Setup doesn't require moving your DNS, which makes it easy to add to an existing site. It suits indie developers, WordPress sites, game studios and video platforms that want predictable bills. Trade-offs: no permanent free tier beyond the trial, a smaller security feature set than Cloudflare or Akamai, and fewer enterprise compliance options. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with no card required.
