About Apache Doris

Apache Doris is an open-source analytical database from the Apache Software Foundation, originally developed at Baidu. It uses a massively parallel, column-oriented engine to answer SQL queries in under a second on large datasets while handling many concurrent users, which makes it a common choice for customer-facing dashboards, log analysis and real-time reporting. Data can stream in from Kafka or change-data-capture feeds, and Doris can query Iceberg, Delta Lake and Hudi tables in place as a lakehouse engine. It speaks the MySQL protocol, so most MySQL clients and BI tools connect without special drivers. Recent releases add full-text and vector search for AI applications. Doris is free under the Apache 2.0 licence and you run it yourself on Linux servers or Kubernetes; managed versions are sold by third-party vendors. It is widely used in China and growing elsewhere, with docs and community in English and Chinese.

Best for: Engineering teams building real-time dashboards or lakehouse analytics on open-source software.
