About Tinybird

Tinybird is a hosted analytics platform built on ClickHouse, aimed at software teams who want to put real-time numbers inside their own product rather than in an internal BI tool. You stream events in over HTTP or pull them from Kafka, S3, GCS and similar sources, write SQL in files called pipes, and publish any query as an authenticated REST endpoint that answers in well under a second. Projects live as plain files, so they can sit in Git, run locally in a container and deploy through CI, and there are TypeScript and Python SDKs plus a CLI. Common uses are customer-facing dashboards, usage metering, web analytics and observability. Compared with running ClickHouse yourself, it removes the cluster, ingestion and API work; compared with a general warehouse such as Snowflake, it is tuned for many small, fast queries rather than large batch reports. There is a free plan with limited compute, then paid plans priced by compute and storage, with dedicated clusters for enterprises. It runs only as a cloud service.

Best for: Developers adding real-time, customer-facing analytics or usage metering to a SaaS product.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Publishes SQL queries as low-latency API endpoints with no backend code
  • Events API accepts data over plain HTTP, no Kafka needed
  • File-based projects work with Git, local dev and CI
  • Free plan with no credit card

Why people leave

  • Cloud-only; no self-managed open-source edition
  • ClickHouse SQL has quirks that general SQL users must learn
  • Not suited to transactional workloads or heavy batch reporting
  • Usage-based compute billing can be hard to predict
