About Artbreeder

Artbreeder is one of the earliest consumer AI image sites. It started with GAN-based 'breeding', where you blend images and slide genes such as age or colour to explore variations, and it became popular for character portraits and fantasy landscapes. Today it combines several tools: Composer, which builds an image from a prompt and reference images, Splicer for mixing images, and editors for collage-style composition and changes, running on newer diffusion models such as SDXL. Much of the site is public and remixable, so images are often built on other users' work. Free accounts can use it with limits and ads; Pro tiers sold as yearly credit bundles remove ads, add privacy controls, Google Drive sync, faster rendering, higher-resolution downloads and unlimited Composer generation. It runs in the browser. It suits hobbyists making character art who enjoy remixing over writing long prompts.

Best for: Hobbyists making character portraits who prefer remixing to prompting.
