About CARTO
CARTO is a web-based geospatial analytics platform built to work directly on top of cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift and Oracle rather than copying data into its own database. Analysts use its Builder tool to make interactive maps and dashboards from very large datasets, Workflows to chain spatial analysis steps without code, and a data catalogue to enrich their own data with demographics and other third-party layers. Developers get APIs and libraries for building map apps on the same data, and newer features add AI agents for spatial questions. It is aimed at enterprises in retail, telecoms, logistics, finance and government rather than hobbyists. Pricing is either pay-as-you-go with no upfront commitment or committed annual tiers quoted by sales, and it can be bought through the Google Cloud, AWS, Azure and Snowflake marketplaces. A free 30-day trial covers the whole platform with demo datasets.
Best for: Data teams that keep geospatial data in BigQuery, Snowflake or Databricks and want to analyse it in place.
