About CutWire Drift

Drift is a video editor from CutWire Studios aimed at people who like CapCut's quick workflow but don't want an account, a watermark or cloud lock-in. It has a multi-track timeline for video, audio, text and shapes, with trim, split, snap, ripple and full undo, plus CapCut-style select and blade tools. It ships about 56 GPU effects, transitions and reusable templates, keyframes, layout presets for TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and other platforms, automatic captions generated from speech, cutouts, masks and green-screen keying, and an audio effect chain with noise reduction. Captions and cutouts are processed locally. An optional local MCP server lets AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Cursor edit the real timeline; it's off until you enable it. Drift is free, open source under GPLv3, and runs on Linux, Windows, macOS and Android. It's young: the current release is labelled early, so expect bugs and missing polish compared with Kdenlive or Shotcut.

Best for: Short-form creators who want a free CapCut-style editor on Linux or without an account.
