About Decap CMS

Decap CMS, formerly Netlify CMS, is an open-source content management system for static sites. It is a single-page React app that you add to your site with a configuration file; editors log in, edit Markdown, YAML or JSON content through forms, and every save becomes a commit or pull request in the site's Git repository. It works with Hugo, Jekyll, Eleventy, Gatsby, Next.js and most other static site generators, and supports GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Gitea and Azure backends. An editorial workflow lets content go through draft, review and publish states. It is a good, free way to let non-developers edit a Git-based site. The downsides are that development has been slower since Netlify handed the project to a community maintainer, the editor is fairly basic compared with hosted CMSs, and authentication setup can be fiddly off Netlify. It is MIT-licensed, runs in the browser and needs no server of its own.

Best for: Static site owners who want free form-based editing that commits to Git.
