About DOSBox Staging
DOSBox Staging is a continuation of the classic DOSBox emulator, built to run old DOS games and programs on current computers. Existing DOSBox configurations keep working, but it adds sensible defaults and features the original lacks: automatic CRT-style shaders that adapt to the emulated video mode, aspect-ratio-correct output, emulation of sound hardware such as the Roland MT-32, Sound Canvas, AdLib and Gravis UltraSound, 3dfx Voodoo graphics, modern controller support and a 64-bit dynamic recompiler for better speed on Arm and x86. It ships for Windows, macOS and Linux, with a detailed user manual and getting-started guides. It's free under the GPL and developed in the open. It focuses on DOS gaming rather than accurate full-PC emulation or Windows 9x, which the team points to other projects for.
Best for: Retro PC gamers who want DOS games to look and sound right with little configuration.

Why people leave
