About foobar2000

foobar2000 is a freeware audio player created by Peter Pawłowski, a former Winamp developer, and a long-time favourite of people with large local music libraries. It is fast and light, plays nearly every audio format out of the box with more supported through components, and offers gapless playback, ReplayGain, accurate tagging, format conversion and CD ripping. Its real strength is customisation: the interface can be rearranged, and a large ecosystem of third-party components adds visualisations, DSP, streaming support and alternative layouts, so two foobar2000 setups can look nothing alike. It can also stream to and control devices on your local network. Versions exist for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, though the desktop Windows version is the most complete. The default look is plain and setting it up the way you like takes effort, and it does nothing for streaming services such as Spotify. It is free to download and use.

Best for: Collectors of local music files who want a fast, endlessly customisable player.
