About Tauon
Tauon, also known as Tauon Music Box, is a free, open-source music player for desktop computers, built by Taiko2k and a community of contributors. It is designed for people who keep their own collections and like to browse by album art: it offers a gallery view, fast search, playlist tabs, tag-based organisation and lyrics, and plays a wide range of formats, including lossless, DSD, CUE sheets and tracker modules. Extras include MilkDrop-style visualisations powered by projectM, Last.fm and ListenBrainz scrobbling, and streaming from servers such as Jellyfin, Plex, Subsonic and Koel. It has no ads, no tracking and requires no account. It is released under the GPLv3 and runs on Linux, Windows and macOS, though Linux, where it is available on Flathub, gets the most attention. The interface is distinctive but less conventional than mainstream players, and as a volunteer project, documentation and polish vary between platforms.
Best for: Desktop users with local music collections who want a free, private and modern player.
